SELECTION PROCEDURES AND CRITERIA
for Off-Campus Study

On 23 January 2003, Curriculum Committee, set the following policies regarding Off-Campus Program Participant selection:

  1. Selection Criteria:

(a)     Student’s Rationale/Strength of Application (double weighting)

(b)     Relevance to Area of Study

(c)     Overall Academic Strength (cumulative GPA) (double weighting)

(d)     Recommendations

(e)     Year in School (1,2,3)  (double weighting)

(f)       Previous International/Off-Campus Experience

(g)     Special Circumstances

  1. Curriculum Committee will designate a subcommittee to review applications; Curriculum Committee will review the subcommittee’s recommendations and officially approve selections.
  2. February 1st is typically the deadline for submission of all applications for all off-campus programs EXCEPT exchange programs; deadline for exchange program applications is March 1st.
  3. Students NOT selected for non-exchange off-campus programs MAY (and are encouraged to) apply for exchange programs by: (a) requesting that previously completed applications be considered for a specific exchange program; or (b) submitting another, or a revised, application specifically for the exchange program.
  4. A student recommended by Monmouth College for an ACM program, but rejected by ACM (not likely, but possible IF there might be a huge excess of applications), WILL BE ALLOWED to request consideration for Monmouth College exchange programs, if positions are still available, even if other selections for exchange programs have been completed.
  5. The Curriculum Committee strongly affirmed the objective of making an off-campus experience available for as many as possible Monmouth College students who will represent the College positively and who will genuinely benefit from the experience.
  6. The Off-Campus Program Coordinator will communicate with students regarding selection processes, and he will communicate with all applicants regarding selection, non-selection, and procedures.
  7. The following statement will be appended to every notice of approval for off-campus study: Students approved for off-campus study are expected to maintain their academic and social standing at MC at its current level, or better, in the semester(s) preceding this off-campus experience. If a student fails to maintain this level of performance, the curriculum committee reserves the right to reconsider this acceptance.
  8. The following amendment was approved on February 28, 2007: That students be permitted to submit applications to study off-campus after the deadline with the understanding that any late applications approved would be placed at the end of the waitlist.
