Reflection
on Constructing Effective Messages
Being able to effectively
construct messages is a life long ability that can be easily
transferred from college to the work environment. The
artifacts listed above contain a variety of messages that
exemplify my best work. The focus is on my ability
to create understandable messages through research,
graphics, oral presentations, video, and website design.
Existentialism Final
This paper was created for Philosophy 250, a special topics
course in existentialism. The paper was written for the
final. Without labeling the entire course assignment, the
paper had to be a general definition of what existentialism
is and how this ideal came into being. The paper exemplifies
seven different existential philosophers, Dostoevsky,
Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Kazantzakis, Sartre, Camus, and Buber.
The
paper follows a basic format with an introduction,
supporting paragraphs highlighting the various authors works
and their relevance to the topic, then a conclusion
statement. The thesis statement contained in this paper is
that with the rise of changing beliefs from the late middle
ages to the beginning of the cold war man has shifted his
beliefs. Originally believing in higher authorities to believing that
one is thrown into this world and is given the sole choice
on how to go through life.
Contemporary Philosophy Midterm
This project
was created for Philosophy 311, Contemporary Philosophy. The
concept for this assignment was to combine Richard Rorty and
Michel Foucault's ideals into one assignment. I was asked
to create the assignment in a creative way so as to enhance
your message. I chose to create a typography of my
thoughts. The original image was created in Photoshop by
transforming the lettering to twist into the correct shapes.
The word revolution refers to a student led revolt in
France that Foucault pays particular attention to in his
writings. However, the entire image is laid resting on Rorty's idea of a 'final vocabulary'. The words in between
are thoughts from the two authors coming together to make
the image whole.
Training
Program Power Point
This PowerPoint was created for Communications 333,
Organizational Communication. The project consisted of
creating a training program and this was a product pitch
intended for college graduates planning on taking a full
time job. This presentation was given orally and was split
up between the group members. The group dressed
professionally, met several times beforehand to discuss the
presentation, and gave the presentation in a competent
manner. The presentation is organized well and to the point.
Finally, visual aids were used to emphasize the important
topics talked about.
Persuasive Message Strategy
This
project was created for Communications 339, Persuasion. The
artifact lists a very specific target audience for an
anti-smoking campaign to be led on a college campus such as
Monmouth.
This artifact proves to be good because it does not only
list the intended audience, it uses research and statistics
to focus in on what the habits and nature is of the
audience. It goes into depth on how the audience views
smoking. This includes but is not limited to, attitudes,
behaviors, beliefs, and their individual saliency towards
the topic. The paper concludes with a rough outline on how
to use McGuire's Two-Step theory to begin the anti-smoking
campaign.
Website
Design
This website
was designed for Communications 365, Media Production. This
website was created over several weeks. The flash events
taking place during the website add to the general effect,
and because everything in the site uses flash there are not
application problems for users. The video uses a combination
of relevant students and professors that highlight just how
important media is in the daily routine. The layout of the
site is easily traversed and aesthetically moving. |
