Social Studies Map Unit:
Activity: Making an Edible Map
Prior to class I mixed up some edible dough and gathered some candy for pairs of students. The partners then used the dough to create a topographic map of the USA.  Then used the candy to represent mountains, rivers, lakes, and cities.

This lesson was a follow up learning about topographic maps.  The students used a topographic map of the USA as a reference.

Dough recipe:
  • 2 cups smooth peanut butter
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered milk
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 cups white corn syrup
