The
department has recently undergone renovations of our lab space. Our well-equipped
laboratory facilities are housed with the other sciences in the Haldeman-Thiessen
Science Center. The department human experimentation facilities include group
processes rooms, as well as individual performance testing areas. We also have an
animal laboratory, and a computer laboratory (with access to the campus-wide
computer network).
Demonstrating her senior
research project, Jen Paris (far left) asked this first year student (far
right) to complete this puzzle blindfolded. Dr. Grahe was checking to see if
the pieces were fitting correctly.
Helping her complete the
puzzle was this instructor who could tell her what to do, but not touch the
pieces or the puzzle. Jen timed their performance and then measured their
attitudes after they were done.
Jon McClain (standing)
conducted an online study measuring social norms on e-mail. Most
participants did not complete the study in the lab.
Dan Sparks measured how taking
breaks affected performance. Here he is showing Heidi Kimball the details of
his experiment.
This is our main lab which
doubles as 8 individual rooms or a grand room partially pictured here.
Our primary classroom has been
fitted with up-to-date AV technology so that our instructors can access the
internet, cable, and a VCR at the push of a button.
We have recently
purchased video equipment, including cameras and an
editing deck, for research purposes.

If you choose to
visit our department (which we strongly encourage), you will notice our
hallways are decorated with classic perceptual illusions and quotes. Here
are some examples. Do you recognize them? (Hold your mouse over the image
for a description.)
Psi Chi painted this
hemisphere view of the brain and labeled the lobes and some other special
areas.
