ALUMNI

It's not too long ago that Scotspeak was nothing more than a figment of one guy's imagination. Founded in 2002, Scotspeak! has evolved and become one of the most active organizations at Monmouth. But how does a group go from nothing to vibrant in less than five years?! It's takes hard work and vision. Luckily, we've had some outstanding people that had the tenacity and dedication to ensure this group lived up to its potential.

Some have graduated, others have left. But each of them has left their mark well beyond their years here at MC. If you're interested in talking to a Scotspeak alum or want to be listed here, contact Brandie Miller.

Mike Fanucce (MC Class of '04)
Mike was the founding director of ThinkLab, MC's Scholastic Bowl Team. When ThinkLab was added to the fledging group that wasn't even named "Scotspeak" yet, membership rose from about 15 people to over 40. ThinkLab remains the largest activity group in Scotspeak to this day. Mike later went on to serve as Parliamentarian of Scotspeak and Student Senate. He was an active member of the Classics Club and English honor societies. He is now a graduate student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

Kathryn Thompson (MC Class of '04)
Kathryn was the first female President of Scotspeak, serving during the 2003-04 academic year. She brought stability to the position and allowed the group to work together and unite to better serve the society. Prior to serving as President, she was the founding director of Model Illinois Government (MIG). She came to MC as a transfer student in Fall 2002 and rather than make MIG a separate group, saw the potential in Scotspeak and decided to integrate the club as part of the society. MIG has flourished sending delegations to the past two state conferences in Springfield and has been noted as one of the most active, well-spoken and talented groups at the annual conference. She is now a graduate student at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK.

Matt Katsenes (MC Class of '04)
Matt joined ThinkLab sometime in 2003 and was a fixture thereafter. He brought his irreverent talent and affinity for being smart to the group and while speeding to graduate in two years, somehow managed to also serve as ThinkLab Director during the 2003-04 academic year. He helped to coordinate the first high school and college quiz bowl tournaments ever hosted at Monmouth College in 2003. Matt also participated in Debate, winning his debate at the 2003 Knox-Monmouth Debates held at MC. He is now a graduate student student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

Joseph Cross (MC Class of '04)
Joe served as Treasurer during 2002 and was an active member of debate during 2002-03. He attended the first meeting of Scotspeak in August of 2002, back when the group was known as just MC Speech & Debate. He was also an active member of ThinkLab. Joe is working in Washington, D.C.

Will McKinley (2002-03)
Will was the second President of Scotspeak in 2003. He spearheaded the Valentine's Day raffle that year that raised over $1,000 and allowed Model UN to attend the conference in New Orleans. He also participated in Model Illinois Government. In 2003, he transferred to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Emily Langdon (2003-04)
Emily was a first-year student in 2003. She was an active member of the Debate Team and was President in 2003-04. In 2004, she transferred to the University of Arizona in Tucson.
