Monmouth College has a long history in Forensics. The college is considered one of the birthplaces for intercollegiate forensics in the Midwest and has a long tradition of excellence in such events. Debate at Monmouth began in 1868 and well into the mid 1900s, Monmouth was among the top oratory teams in the nation. In 1947, Monmouth was a top seed at PKD Nationals and received an award of Excellent. In 1949, Monmouth received an award of Excellent at DSR-TKA Nationals. In 2002, MC Speech & Debate was created and returned competitive forensics to Monmouth College after an absence of over thirty years. In 2003, we hosted our first debate competition called "The Midwest Scrimmage" with several nationally ranked teams in attendance. MC Debate is a founding member of the Central Debate Conference.
