1998 SEASON |
HEAD COACH : Simon Cordery, 5th year Phone 309-457-2379 / E-mail: simon@monm.edu SIMON CORDERY begins his fifth season as the women's soccer coach and has directed the program from its fledgling start as an intercollegiate sport to a competitive team within the Midwest Conference. Cordery was hired as the first women's soccer coach at Monmouth in 1994 and has seen his squad grow in both quantity and quality of skilled players. Despite a slow beginning over the first three seasons, the women's soccer team continues to make progress and posted their first winning season last fall, missing the conference tournament by only one game. Cordery earned his doctoral degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 and is an instructor of history at the college. He started playing soccer as a child in England and participated in intercollegiate soccer at Northern Illinois University, Christ Church College (Canterbury, England) and the University of York in England. He previously coached men's soccer teams in Greenville, North Carolina, before moving to Monmouth to begin the women's program. VALERIA OROZCO joins Cordery on the sidelines this fall after completing a four-year career at Monmouth. She was one of the founding members of the women's soccer team and served as captain during her junior and senior seasons. She was an Honorable Mention selection on the All-Midwest Conference South Division team at midfielder in 1995. |
