Behind the strength of two All-Conference runners Monmouth finished fourth at the 1997 league meet, falling only five points shy of third place. Defending champion Carroll finished on top for the second straight season. Senior Carrie Knauer tied a Monmouth school record by earning her third All-Conference medal in cross country as she placed 6th overall, the Scots' highest individual finish in four years and Knauer's first top-ten placing. Junior Gretchen Vandergriff was the squad's second finisher, claiming her first All-MWC medal in 12th place.
