Memorial Lecture coming to MC

By Megan Smith- Courier Staff

On April 10 at 11 a.m., the Wendell Whiteman Memorial Lecture will be held in the newly renovated Dorothy and Arthur Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. This year's guest speaker will be Fedrico Sacasa, the Executive Director of Caribbean/Latin American Action.

The Whiteman Lecture Series was created by Wendell’s three sons: Donald, Ralph and Richard Whiteman; all of whom are alumni of Monmouth College.

This lecture is held to promote prominent leaders into the American business industry by having the selected lecturer speak of his experiences in the business world.

Fedrico Sacasa has worked as a senior manager at Bank of America in San Francisco, London, and Miami as well as for Bano de Credito del Peru and Wells Fargo. He has also presided over other unions, such as the Bankers’ Association for Finance & Trade, United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the Pan-American Society of California.

“We are really proud that we are able to hold this lecture because it brings prominent individuality to Monmouth College, and it is an honor to have such an outstanding speaker,” said Richard Valentine, Dean of College Relations.

In previous years, this institution had other guest speakers including Walter S. Huff, Jr. ‘56 whose name is lent to the upcoming Huff Athletic Center.  Other past guest speakers include Harold A. Poling and Lee L. Morgan, both who have shared their names with Monmouth College, creating the Morgan Room which is located inside of Poling Hall.

“This really gives Monmouth College a chance to show itself off a little bit because we are a small school and it's really nice to have someone of great stature come here and speak to us,” said Dalene White, Director of Advancement/Planned Giving/Major Gifts.

These lectures are named in memory of Wendell Whiteman, a Monmouth College alumnus and long-time executive of Security Savings Bank in Monmouth.
