The Order of the Omega
Delta Lambda Constitution

ARTICLE I
Name

Section 1:
The name of this organization shall be The Order of Omega.

Section 2:
The Order of Omega chapter at Monmouth College shall be the Delta Lambda chapter.

ARTICLE II
Affiliation

Section 1:
The Delta Lambda chapter shall be affiliated with the national organization of The Order of Omega.

ARTICLE II
Purpose

Section 1:
The purpose of the Delta Lambda chapter shall be as the purpose outlined in the National Constitution of The Order of Omega:

First, to recognize those students who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Greek activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.

Second, to bring together the most representative fraternity and sorority members, and to create an organization which will help mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate affairs.

Third, to bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness.

ARTICLE IV
Membership

Section 1:
The members of this Order shall be confined to members of Greek-letter social organizations.

Section 2:
There shall be four classes of members: student, faculty, alumni, and honorary.

Student members shall be those duly elected to membership as undergraduate students by the Delta Lambda chapter and they shall be so designated during the remaining period of their undergraduate, post baccalaureate, and/or graduate enrollment.

Faculty members shall be those members of the faculty or the administrative staff of Monmouth College elected by the Delta Lambda chapter as faculty members, or those formerly elected to membership who may subsequently be serving on the faculty or staff of Monmouth College.

Alumni members shall be all former student members after their graduation or the termination of their collegiate enrollment.

Honorary members shall be those elected post graduation by the Delta Lambda chapter.

Section 3:
Membership in the Delta Lambda chapter entitles the person elected to the rights and privileges of life membership in The Order of Omega, except that only active members may vote and hold office in the chapter.

Section 4:
The active membership of the Delta Lambda chapter of The Order shall consist of student members of the chapter.

Section 5:
The total number of faculty and alumni members shall not exceed forty percent (40%) of the membership of the Delta Lambda chapter.

Section 6:
Transfer members may affiliate or be eligible for selection to membership according to the following:

Initiated transfer students shall be affiliated with the Delta Lambda chapter of The Order of Omega at the chapter’s discretion. The chapter shall verify membership with the National Office of The Order of Omega.

A student transferring from another institution shall be eligible for selection to membership in the Delta Lambda chapter. Such transfer students are subject to the eligibility requirements as defined in the Article I of the Delta Lambda Bylaws.

Section 7:

Chapters may select into membership a student who was initiated into a Greek organization at another institution that is not represented at Monmouth College. The chapter shall verify the affiliation with the National Office of the fraternity or sorority.

Section 8:

Should a student’s fraternal organization close or lose official recognition from Monmouth College the student may be eligible for membership or maintain membership in the Delta Lambda chapter if The Order of Omega as long as eligibility requirements in the Bylaws are met.

ARTICLE V
Officers

Section 1:

President:
Is in charge of calling the full body and executive committee meetings and to preside at such meetings.

Vice President:
Is in charge of the meetings if the President is unable to attend. Is in charge of the chapter’s programming.

Secretary:
Is in charge of the minutes of the full body and executive meetings. Is in charge of distributing the minutes to the chapter via electronic mail.

Treasurer:
Is in charge of finances of the organization. Is in charge of collecting the chapter dues set forth in Article II of the chapter Bylaws.

Section 2:
Elections shall be held the autumn of every year. Nominations shall be taken from the floor and voted upon by the chapter members.

Section 3:
Terms of office shall be one year from autumn to autumn. Any officer of the chapter is eligible for reelection or reappointment.

Section 4:
Vacancies in offices shall be filled by the executive committee and brought to the chapter. A simple majority (51%) is all that is needed to support the executive committee’s nomination.

ARTICLE VI
Advisor

Section 1:
The chapter advisor shall be nominated from among the faculty and staff of Monmouth College.

Section 2:
The term of the advisor shall be at the chapter’s discretion.

ARTICLE VII
Meetings

Section 1:
The full body of the Delta Lambda chapter shall meet monthly.

Section 2:
The executive committee shall meet monthly. The meeting shall occur at least one (1) day before the full body meeting.

Section 3:
Special meetings of both the full body and the executive committee shall be called by the president.

ARTICLE VIII
Quorum

Section 1:
A quorum of members (75% of active members) must be present in order to vote on business.

ARTICLE IX
Amendments

Section 1:
Any amendment to this Constitution shall be require for its passage an affirmative vote of three-fourths (3/4) vote of the active members.

ARTICLE X
Ratification

Section 1:
The adoption of this Constitution requires a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active members.
