Recruitment Process
Recruitment at Monmouth College is a
mutual selection between your son or daughter and the respective chapters. During recruitment, your son or daughter has the opportunity to find the
chapter that best fits their personality and expectations of college. Recruitment here at Monmouth College occurs during the first two weeks that
your son or daughter arrives on campus.
The three sororities hold their
Formal Recruitment the last week of August, while the fraternities hold their
formal recruitment the first week in September. During Recruitment, your
son or daughter is given the opportunity to learn about the individual Greek
chapters and their involvement on campus.
Recruitment gives your
son or daughter an opportunity to get involved on campus and to make long
lasting friendships through the process. Throughout the Recruitment process it
is a mutual selection between the Greek chapter and your son/daughter. During the Recruitment process your son or daughter is not obligated at any
point to join a fraternity or a sorority but is highly encouraged to
participate in Recruitment as a way to
meet the student body.
Recruitment begins with a informational meeting and then a
tour of the sororities chapter rooms and then of the fraternity houses. The
following nights consist of three parties. During these parties your son
or daughter will get a chance to meet chapter members, learn about Greek Life,
see skits and participate in chapter philanthropies.
The last night
before bid day for the sororities here at Monmouth College it is called
Preference Party and you will have a choice to choose two parties to attend
that night. After the parties that night you will fill out your
preference card. The following morning, which is bid day, you will find
out what chapter has extended you a bid. At any point throughout
Recruitment, you are not
pressured to accept any bid or attend any party. The dress for formal
recruitment week is semi- casual, formal, and on bid day you need a white
dress.

any questions that you may have throughout the week. They are a member
of a fraternity or sorority, but during Formal Recruitment, they work for Panhellenic or Interfraternity Council and remain unaffiliated with his/her
fraternity or sorority. They will be able to give you unbiased advice
and answer your question from an impartial standpoint and to the best of their
ability.
Joining
Upon receiving their bid, your son or
daughter will go through new member education with their respective chapter. Their new member education will include weekly meetings, participating in
chapter activities, and weekly study programs. Each chapter creates
their programs so that they do not interfere with your son or daughter's
academic responsibility. Each chapter values your son or daughter's
scholarship, her personal talents, and the development of her own interests.
Greek Scholars
The members in fraternities and sororities strive for
excellence when it comes to academics. The Greek community's GPA as a
whole is generally higher than the campus' average GPA. The fraternities
and the sororities at Monmouth College have programs to help out one another
when it comes to academics by having study hours in the library and peer
tutoring. Each chapter recognizes outstanding achievement through a
variety of awards and incentives. There are also many opportunities to
receive scholarships through individual fraternity and sorority headquarters.
Financial Responsibility
Every chapter differs from one another when it comes down to
the cost. The price range for the sororities is 350.00 to 500.00. For fraternities it is 300.00 to 500.00. Some feel that it is a little
expensive; however each chapter is able to work with the new member on a
payment plan so they can have an opportunity to be part of Greek Life. In addition to the payment plans, dues change every year. The first year
is usually the most expensive, however they will decrease after your first
year. The required things that you need to pay for throughout the year
is covered in your dues. Anything thing extra, may not be considered
required and therefore are optional to buy.
