The Office of Intercultural Life provides support to meet the particular needs and concerns of students of color on Monmouth College campus.

CEA at Homecoming
Spirit Shout!

The Office of Intercultural Life provides educational and social programming for the entire campus community. It organizes the award winning “Cultures in America” series. This program showcases campus-wide cultural programming. Some of the “Cultures in America” programming includes:

a) Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations: Office of Intercultural Life invites speakers to present on issues relative to the dreams of Martin Luther King Jr.

b) Black History Month: During the month of February a host of activities are organized to celebrate black history and the contribution of African Americans to American society. The programs are diverse and include workshops, speakers on African American history and experiences, musical concerts, and story telling.

c) Hispanic/Latin American Heritage Day: The Office of Intercultural Life also celebrates the contribution of the Hispanic community to American culture and heritage.

d) Monmouth Cultural Festival: Every year in the fall, the Office of Intercultural Life organizes a cultural festival to celebrate the cultural diversity that exists in US society. International Students put up country booths to display their artifacts. Students cook food from their countries and provide music. It is a day of great festivities.

American Minority Clubs Advised by the Office of Intercultural Life


Coalition for Ethnic Awareness (CEA)
Mission: CEA promotes multicultural awareness on campus. It represents the academic and political interests of American minority students.

Membership: Open to all MC students interested in cultural and ethnic diversity, regardless of race, religion, sex, or nationality.

CEA at Homecoming
Spirit Shout!

Educational: Organizes co-curricular programs relating to American minority experiences, such as cultural awareness week/month (a theme is chosen and is celebrated that week through lectures and panel discussions). This year CEA seniors and juniors are offering free tutoring in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Spanish, Psychology, Business and PR.

Social Events: Movie nights, play/drama/theatre and social nights

Community Service: food drive and donations for homeless shelters

Fundraisers: Raise funds to support community causes e.g. homeless shelters, after school reading programs

Meeting Days: Every other Thursday at the Tartan Room

Time: 7:00pm


Coalition for Women’s Awareness (CWA)
Mission: CWA’s purpose is to develop greater awareness of human potential by examining lifestyles, roles, attitudes, and values through programs and activities that are designed to meet the needs of women and men in today’s world.

Membership: Open to both women and men on MC campus

Educational: Activities and programs to raise awareness about women in sciences, leadership, domestic violence prevention, breast cancer, celebration of women in March during women’s history month.

Social Events: Social nights, movie nights, Spirit shouts on eve of homecoming

Meeting Days: Every other Thursday at the 1st Conference Room at Lower Level Stockdale

Time: 6:30pm


La Raza
Mission: Promotes Latino/Latina and Mexicana cultural awareness. It promotes unity and understanding about the Latino/Latina and Mexicana Community through cultural programs, projects.

Programs: Sponsors and generates bilingual, cultural and educational activities that will enhance communication and achievement of all students at MC


People Respecting Individual Sexualities at Monmouth (PRISM)
Mission: An educational organization open to people of ALL sexual orientations that promotes awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Programs: Educational, Social and Community Service
Educational: Diversity Week: Talks and workshops aimed at creating awareness and acceptance of GLBT students

Social Events: National Coming out Day, Day of Silence, Fashion Show, World Aid’s Day-Fundraising Activities, Drag shows, National Blue Jean day

Community Service: Funds to support worthy causes in MC Community

Fundraisers: Sell T-Shirts, Bake sale

Meeting Days: Every other Monday at the Tartan Room, Stockdale
