Guests & Visitation
2008-2009
Bowers, Liedman, McMichael, North, Winbigler, Peterson and Fulton halls, the
fraternity complex, Founders Village and the theme houses have twenty-four
hour visitation privileges.
Twenty-four hour visitation does not imply that a guest of the opposite
sex may stay continuously for twenty-four hours in a hall. Rather,
twenty-four hour visitation is a privilege extended to allow students to
have guests during any hour of the day as long as the length of that visit
is considered reasonable by the residence hall staff. Co-habitation is not
permitted.
Residents of Cleland, Grier and Graham residence halls will decide on the
guest-hour arrangements they wish to maintain, with the understanding that
visitation privileges may extend no more than sixteen hours during the
week and eighteen hours during the weekend. Further, the visitation hours
in Cleland, Grier and Graham residence halls may not extend past 2:00 a.m.
or regular closing hours.
Ninety-five percent of the residents of a living unit must approve the
proposed hours of visitation. Once established, the hours of visitation
may not be changed until the following semester.
The
hall councils will be responsible for surveying residents to determine the
proposed hours of visitation. The hours of visitation must then be
submitted to and approved by the Office of Student Affairs. The hall
council must notify the Office of Student Affairs of proposed visitation
hours within the first week of the first semester.
One
lounge area in each limited visitation hall may be designated a 24-hour
visitation area. A petition, signed by at least 95% of the residents, must
be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs Office for its approval.
The
purpose of the visitation program is to entertain guests. The individual
resident is personally and primarily responsible for his or her actions
and conduct as well as for the safety, well-being, and conduct of guests.
The rights of roommates are to be observed, and College and residence hall
regulations are to be upheld when guests are entertained. Guests and hosts
must observe commonly accepted standards of conduct. The hall council also
has a major obligation to ensure that guests in the building observe the
peace and normal living requirements of the hall. If conduct regulations
are not properly maintained, as determined by the Office of Student
Affairs, and if the hall council does not practice responsibility for
maintaining the peace of the hall, action may be taken by the Office of
Student Affairs. In extreme cases of irresponsibility or disregard for the
intent of this policy to promote the entertaining of guests in a socially
acceptable manner, the College may be obligated to review the privilege
for the hall in question.
All
non-student guests must be registered with the HD or HR in advance. Only
under exceptional circumstances are students to have guests other than on
weekends.
