Staff-supervised participation in technical theatre. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. (One credit.) You must complete a contract with Professor Rankin before registration for the course is complete.
Objectives may contain but are not limited to understanding and mastering the following concepts:
Stage terminology and geography
The production process
The basic principles of set, lighting, sound, costume and make-up design
The safety factors involved with using hand tools, hardware, and power tools
Types of lighting equipment
The basic factors involved in using stage lighting
The use of props
The basic principles of set construction
How to make a model set
How to paint stage scenery
Terminology related to sound effects for the stage
How to use sound equipment
How designers work collaboratively with each other and with the director, actors and other members of the production team to make an effective performance
Your final grade will be determined by a point system. Each assignment will have a maximum potential value. Your final grade will be determined by the percentage of total points.
