Course Policies

Advanced Theatre Workshop is a customizable class, depending on your interests. Usually students enrolled in the course are expected to do work above ordinary construction work in one of the shops, specializing in one or more specific areas of technical theatre.  An individual contract will be drafted between the student and professor before work begins.

Class attendance is expected, although excusable absences will not count against you. You do have the responsibility of notifying me in advance about all scheduled conflicts. If you are sick enough to miss class, please see a doctor and bring a note from him or her when you return to class. You are STRONGLY encouraged to ask questions in class;  this will help ensure your safety and ability to be productive. At any time you are worried about your standing in the class, please make an appointment with me or see me after class.  I will be happy to help you with strategies to improve your outcome.

Attendance will be recorded in a timesheet book which is kept on the work table next to the theatre loading door. You will be responsible for having your immediate supervisor initial time worked after each session.

Regular attendance is required.  There are certain cases when they may be excused. Examples are varsity or junior varsity sport conflicts (with excuse from coach) and family emergencies. You must email me no later than the day of the lab and preferably before that to be granted an excused absence. It is in your best interest to clear it with me personally before the absence.

The theatre is an inherently dangerous place. Power tools and machinery can cause serious injury. Attention to safety rules is required and failure to comply can result in failure of the course.  You must never wear open-toed shoes.  Long hair must be tied back at all times. Safety glasses will be supplied as will dust masks, respirators or other safety devices which may apply to the task at hand.  Cell phone use is not allowed, nor is the use of personal music players.

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will normally result in automatic failure of this course. I abide by the policy outlined in the Scots Guide. By enrolling in this class, you are accepting these course policies as a contract which you agree to uphold.

This class normally has NO extra credit opportunities.
