Visual Aids in Presentations

 

1. Who

·         17-20 year olds

·         College bound junior and senior high school students

·         Freshman and sophomore college students

o   Possibly interested in communication, business, etc.

·         The colleges and universities that hire us

·         High schools that hire us

·         Community in general

2. What.

·         Program period: One week 30 minute sessions each.

Day 1: Get to know the trainers and discuss the importance of effective use of multimedia use in presentations.

Day 2: Main focus will be on effective PowerPoint usage. Go over examples of poorly constructed PowerPoint slides and explain the consequences of them. Then move on to showing what makes an effective PowerPoint slide.

o   Background color schemes

o   Transitions between slides

o   Text vs. pictures

o   Reliability on slide

Day 3: Main focus will be on effective usage of audio and video. Go over examples of poorly used audio and / or visual aid and explain the consequences of them. Then move on to showing how to use audio and / or visual aid effectively

o   Length

o   Portraying to topic

Day 4: Main focus will be on effective usage of props. Go over examples of poorly used props and explain the consequences of them. Then move on to showing how to properly use props in a presentation.

o   When to pass around

o   How to handle during presentation

o   Portraying to topic

Afterwards, give them an assignment or project to present the next day to prove they have learned and understand everything

Day 5: Final Training day

o   Presentations

o   Do a quick review of what we discussed through the week

o   Ask for any feedback or questions
