Defining Citizenship

Discussion Questions for Teams and individuals in class .  Think about these questions, come with some ideas, be prepared to work with your team to prepare answers.

  • All class members individually:  What are the “purposes” Monmouth College best accomplishes (for/with students) and why?  What are the purposes we are least effective in accomplishing and why?

   Teams:  (by team number)

1.    What should an INTG 415 student take away from this class in terms of responding to the media for his or her own needs, for the needs of the community/nation?

2.    What should an INTG 415 student take away from this class in terms of how he or she engages in work with others as a citizen who contributes to the needs of community/nation?

3 & 4.  How would you define a “good citizen?”  What are his/her duties, behaviors and attitudes?

5 & 6.  Do you have responsibilities as a citizen of a (alleged) democratic society? [ That is, can society expect to call on you for certain responsibilities you are obligated to honor?]   Why do you have  “responsibilities” to society (or not)?

These discussion questions may relate to the take home part of the final exam.
