Practice Exercises 1
Label or create the grounds, claim and warrant for each of the following arguments. You may have to infer some parts of the argument. (Make your choice of warrant as general as you can for the example given.) Identify each argument as concerning fact, value or policy. As will be the case throughout the homework exercises, there is more than more one "right" way to "analyze" the argument.
1. A good speech maintains the attention of the audience.
2. Not reporting all your income to the IRS is a crime.
3. The government should act to reform the health care system.
4. Heroism is doing what's right in the face of fear.
5. Both Darwin's theory and Biblical creation should be taught in the public schools.
6. Homosexuals should not be permitted in the military.
