Wendy Thomas is  20 year old biology major at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.  She is also pursuing a minor in chemistry.  In her time at Monmouth College, she has completed coursework in Calculus II, Statistics, Cell Biology, and Genetics.  She also has completed two years of chemistry coursework and is currently in Biochemistry I.  Skills acquired during Ms. Thomas’ studies include UV spectroscopy, gas chromatography, gel electrophoresis techniques, including agarose gel preparation as well as polyacrylamide gels, mass spectroscopy, centrifugation, titration, and buffer preparation.  The current year has yielded much to her experience in experimental techniques, as her Biochemistry I class has purified green fluorescent protein (GFP) from a bioluminescent jellyfish, Aequorea victoria.  The class is currently in the processes of characterizing and doing computational analysis on the protein.
