Gene Regulation

Gene regulation is when certain genes are turned on or off.  If the gene is needed then different enzymes will trigger the gene and it will turn on.  However, if the gene is not needed at that time then the enzymes can also shut it down.  This is important to many organisms because it allows them to save energy that would be wasted.  Arabinose is a sugar that the E.coli use as a carbon and energy source.   It also promotes the gene which expresses the pGlo to be turned on or off.
