1.  An Informative PowerPoint on Stem Cells

This PowerPoint introduces Stem Cells of all types, includes the basics, and also addresses some of the moral and ethical dilemmas that Stem Cells create.

2.  Why are Stem Cells an interesting topic to me?

The issues surrounding Stem Cells sparked my interest when I was writing a research paper for my senior English class in high school.  Since then, I have been following the new breakthroughs, restrictions, and debates that are emerging in stem cell research.  To me, the potential advances of stem cell technology in the medical field seem very promising, and if scientists can someday figure out how to use these new therapies, the human condition will only improve.  Because our class title is The Ideal, I couldn't think of any better topic that was of interest to me and also a promising advancement in the treatment of disease and the continuing quest of improve the human condition.

Stem cell research also appealed to me because the issue seems to encompass many different disciplines.  To me, the science behind stem cells is interesting, the ethics and legal considerations about their research is interesting, and the controversies that are emerging from the research are interesting.  Because stem cells fit into all angles of my own interests, this project was a learning experience that I also happened to enjoy.

The issue of stem cell research has a variety ethical and moral dilemmas attached to it, and with these moral and ethical arguments, controversies are born.

This link provides information on how the promise of stem cells could be used to improve the human condition and the issues that these improvements may raise.  Also covered are the challenges, sources of concerns, and potential benefits to the human condition that might result from the promise of stem cells.

6. and 10.  What are the roles of citizens and the education of citizens to resolve some of the stem cell issues? and also, a study done by the Pew Research Center on the views of the public concerning the issue of stem cell research.

This link discusses why the education of citizens in all aspects of the stem cell issue is a necessary step to making stem cell research a public supported (and eventually government funded) endeavor.  While answering this question, a study on the effects of religion and education on the opinions supporting and opposing stem cell research will be presented.

7.  How could society possibly be impacted if there is no regulation in stem cell research?

This link discusses how the lack of regulation in stem cell research could lead to unintended uses of the technology.  The lack of regulation in the case of stem cell research could lead to serious ethical and moral problems.

8.  It's time to bring this issue full circle

This link is my the product of my reflection of this topic and how it relates to my group (Brain Trust) and our honors class (The Ideal).

9.  Stem Cell Research vs. Philosophical Theories

This link is a comparison between my topic, stem cell research, and Ben's topic, where philosophy fits in to the ideal.

12.  A little media to finish the presentation of my topic

The media is often looked upon in a negative light, and it is no exception with the stem cell debate.  But, a few good things do come out of the news, and one thing is cartoons.
