My name is Coco Shoemaker and I am a Sociology major and a Psychology minor. I chose these areas because I want to go into the Social work field. I have known that I wanted to go into a psychology related field ever since I took a psychology class in high school. Monmouth College does not have a “social work program” per say, so I was allowed to create my own program. This area interests me because I am fascinated, frustrated, and amazed by human behavior, so this area gives me a chance to study and learn about that behavior. I have also experienced the social work system closely when dealing with family members and have witnessed the inefficiencies involved. Therefore, I have wanted to have the chance to get into the system and change some of the imperfections, however small those changes will likely be. I feel that this area of study is important to society because human behavior is something that everyone encounters in daily life and having knowledge of why, when, and how people behave the way they do will only help to facilitate greater understanding between individuals.
