Gordian II

238 A.D.

Gordian was the son of the father of the same name. He led a hopelessly outclassed militia army against a Roman legion headed by Capellianus and died in battle.

Rev: VIRTVSAVGG, Virtus standing left, right hand on shield and holding spear in left. Lot sold for $3,000 4/1/2001.


RSC 1, BMC 33 AR Denarius Obv: IMPCMANTGORDIANVSAFRAFRAVG; Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
Rev: CONCORDIAAVGG; Concordia seated left, holding patera and double cornucopia. Lot sold for $230 1/29/02.
