Adverb Phrases

An adverb phrases is a phrase with an adverb as its head.  The head may be preceded by an intensifier (another adverb) and followed by a complement or a postmodifier (usually a prepositional phrase or a clause).

An adverb phrase modifies a verb, adjective, or adverb. It is used to tell when, where, how, or to what extent about the word it modifies.

Example:

Megan put her bird in its cage.
("in its cage" tells where about the verb put.)
