Noun Clauses
A noun clause is a
dependent clause that can be used the same ways as a noun or pronoun. It can be
a subject, predicate nominative, direct
object, appositive, indirect
object, or object of the preposition. They
may begin with a relative pronoun or by, whether, when, where, why, or how.
Examples:
Whoever wins the race will receive the trophy.
(A noun clause serves as the subject of the sentence.)
This grade is what I deserve.
(A noun clause serves as the subject complement.)
