Most of you are "unconscious writers," I would guess. This means that you just "write" and don't really think all that much about what it is you're doing, or what it means. Yet each of you really does hold a set of understandings about writing -- a theory, if you will -- which guides what you do, what you believe, and what your outcomes for writing are. For your first essay in here, then, explore (and in the process define) your own theory of writing, the one you operate under, as you currently perceive it. Here are some things to juggle, though you don't necessarily have to address any one of them. Simply jotting quick, rough answers to them will more than likely generate lots of material which you can begin to shape for your first essay.
Your likely reaction here will be a detailed listing and exploration of the actions you take. Remember, understanding a "theory" is to understand the abstract ideas which drive those actions. I would ask you to consider both in this essay. |
