This web page, devoted completely to the life and works of Anton Chekhov, gives very detailed information on the biography of Chekhov while also providing a list of his works, distinguished both by their genre and by the year that they were written.  The cite also provides a gallery of pictures of Chekhov himself and some of the more memorable places that affected his life.  Not only is the biographical content of this cite very useful, but the additional links giving information about Chekhov’s numerous works and travels is unique to this cite.

2)    The Literature Network: Anton Chekhov

The Literature Network is dedicated to providing detailed biographies of authors and their works.  The Anton Chekhov page has a very long and descriptive biography of the author, and it also provides a list of works, separated by genre, that, when clicked, provide the full story in print. This cite is very useful for the Chekhov student who is looking to read a specific story by Chekhov while gaining a little bit of a historical and critical knowledge of the author himself.

This page, maintained by the Eldritch Press, is solely dedicated to Anton Chekhov.  It provides numerous links to related Chekhovian cites, many of which provide biographical information on Chekhov or give a detailed description of Russian life during Chekhov’s time.  This cite is very useful for finding academic cites dedicated to Chekhov as well as finding historical information about Chekhov and his writings.  Like many of the other cites on this list, this one also provides links to some of Chekhov’s stories online in their full-length versions.

This site provides a brief biography of Anton Chekhov, however, what is useful about this site are some of the other options that it provides.  The site provides several links through which users can read letters that Chekhov has written to friends, access an article written by Maxim Gorky on Chekhov, as well as monologues of Chekhov.  This site also provides options for users to purchase books containing works, both plays and short stories, by Chekhov. 

5)    Anton Chekhov on Writing

This website is an excellent resource because it provides specific quotes from Anton Chekhov.  What makes these quotes interesting is that Chekhov is commenting on writing.  Along with comments made by Chekhov, other authors, such as Maxim Gorky, comment on Chekhov’s writing.  

6)    Literature, Arts, and Medicines Database:  Anton Chekhov

This website is an excellent source for those who need help interpreting and understanding Anton Chekhov’s works.  This source provides a list of links to works written by Chekhov.  The links are full on-line text that contain annotations for specific references with the text with footnotes at the bottom of the page.

The Encyclopædia Britannica Online is a resource that highlights and overviews the life and works of Anton Chekhov.  This website separates Chekhov’s life into specific developmental and stages both in regards to his life and his progression as a writer.  An advantage to this online resource is that it provides suggestions for additional regard about the life of Chekhov. 

8)    Ward No. 6 and Other Stories by Anton Chekhov

This webpage contains a literary review of Chekhov’s works by Dan Schneider.  Schneider discusses Chekhov’s short stories such as Ward No. 6, The Grasshopper, and other comparing them to the works of other authors.  This comparison is done in a context where contemporary references are made, making it more appealing to a younger audience. 

9)    Mania Sakhalinosa: An Episode in the Life of Dr. Anton Chekhov.

This webpage is an article written by John Coope.  This webpage is important because it talks about a portion of Chekhov’s life that is often forgotten by those who read his works.  Chekhov spend a great portion of his life working as a medical doctor and this became a great influence on his life and significantly impacted his works and Coope discusses this influence.

This website provides a historical background on Russian culture.  Russian culture becomes a significant influence in understanding the writings of Chekhov.  This site provides links covering customs, folklore, iconography, the church, literature, and the history of Russia.
