Alice Munro is a contemporary author who has inspired her readers with short stories for over twenty years.  Georgeann Murphy says about Munro that “she has enjoyed, perhaps more than any of her contemporaries, a consistently high degree of both popular and critical success, inspiring more book-length studies of her work than she has published books” (12).  Munro’s writings deal with the everyday person which keeps her readers interested because she is dealing with easily relatable characters.
