Part I. Short Answer/History. Choose 5 of 7 questions about historical events cultural ideas from the reports, and the opera lecture. Some answers will require a word or two; others will require a sentence or two. I will give a few bonus points for knowledge of some of these dates. (5X2=10 points)
Part II. Identification: Choose
4 of the 6 quotations and identify author and title of the work (2 pts.).
Then in two or three sentences explain the significance
of the lines (why the lines are especially important to the work). (3 pts.).
(5x4=20 total points)
Part III. Visual Analysis: Write an analysis of a visual
artifact (i.e., a painting, cartoon, etching, etc.) from the Victorian
period and explain what it reveals about the culture/society. Connect the
painting to other paintings (by name and artist) that we've examined this
semester (20 points)
Part IV. Essay. Choose 1 of 2 questions and write a
thesis-driven essay. Begin your answer with a
brief introduction and
clear thesis statement that forecasts your answer, and then develop your thesis
with organized paragraphs that include topic sentences, use specific
evidence from the cultural artifacts, and have clear analysis which explains your answer to
the question or addresses the topic. Take time to
proofread your answer before you turn it in.
You will have to write about works from more than one genre.
