Part I.  Short Answer/History. Choose 5 of 7 questions about historical events cultural ideas from the reports, and the opera lecture.  Some answers will require a word or two; others will require a sentence or two.  I will give a few bonus points for knowledge of some of these dates.  (5X2=10 points)

Part II. Identification:  Choose 4 of the 6 quotations and identify author and title of the work (2 pts.).  Then in two or three sentences explain the significance of the lines (why the lines are especially important to the work). (3 pts.). (5x4=20 total points)

Part III.  Visual Analysis:  Write an analysis of a visual artifact (i.e., a painting, cartoon, etching, etc.)  from the Victorian period and explain what it reveals about the culture/society.  Connect the painting to other paintings (by name and artist) that we've examined this semester (20 points)

Part IV. Essay.  Choose 1 of 2 questions and write a thesis-driven essay.  Begin your answer with a brief introduction and clear thesis statement that forecasts your answer, and then develop your thesis with organized paragraphs that include topic sentences, use specific evidence from the cultural artifacts, and have clear analysis which explains your answer to the question or addresses the topic.  Take time to proofread your answer before you turn it in.  You will have to write about works from more than one genre.  YOU MAY USE YOUR BOOKS, AND I WILL PROVIDE A READING LIST.  (50 points)
