Insert a Placeholder

Placeholders are used when you don't have all of the information needed for a source. Instructions for inserting a placeholder are below.

  1. Click in the document where you want to insert the placeholder.
  2. On the References tab, click Insert Citation and select Add New Placeholder.

  3. If desired, on the Placeholder name window, enter a different name for the placeholder. (The placeholder name must be one word.)
  4. Click OK.
  5. When you're ready to add the source information for the placeholder, click the placeholder's down arrow and select Edit Source.
