Theatre Department News MC to present A Year With Frog and tOad
Theatre-goers can fall in love with
their favorite childhood books all over again as Monmouth College’s
Crimson Masque presents “A Year With Frog and Toad,” April 23-26 at
the Fusion Theatre in downtown Monmouth
The play will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on the first three days and at 2 p.m. on April 26. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for non-MC students and senior citizens and $4 with a Monmouth College ID. Seating is limited, with only 100 seats per show, so advance tickets, which can be purchased online at www.monm.edu/box-office, are recommended. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Directed by assistant professor of theatre Emily Rollie, the production will conclude the college’s theatre season. The college will also tour the production to schools and other venues in the area in the weeks following the performances at the Fusion Theatre. The Tony-nominated musical with book and lyrics by Willie Reale and music by Robert Reale is based on the children’s books written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. The story follows best friends Frog and Toad, who wake up after a long winter hibernation. Spring greets them with friends and plenty of adventures to last the year. Directly reflecting many of the famous books, this musical will have both the young and the young at heart laughing with its humor and catchy tunes. “We tried to be faithful to the books and the characters that people have read about and fell in love with as kids,” said Rollie. “The concept is to bring the books and their adventures to life.” To help create the imaginative world of Frog and Toad, Monmouth College brought in professional costume designer, Orli Nativ, from New York to design the costumes. Recommended for ages 5 and up, “A Year With Frog and Toad” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
