Directed by assistant
professor of theatre
Vanessa Campagna, the
production will be June
Walker Rogers’s stage
play adaptation of
E.T.A. Hoffman’s classic
story. On Christmas Eve,
Clara receives from her
godfather a special
nutcracker. Later that
night, a sleepless Clara
suddenly finds that the
Nutcracker has come to
life. Desperate to
regain his crown from
the evil Mouse King, the
Nutcracker asks that
Clara accompany him on a
series of different
adventures.
Campagna explains that
this stage play version
is compelling because
“it offers many exciting
acting opportunities, is
conducive to a large
cast, and enables me to
weave into the artistic
process my experience
with dance and movement,
as the play does include
ballet sequences.”
”The Nutcracker”
continues the
well-established
tradition of a biannual
collaboration between
Monmouth College and the
Monmouth community on a
holiday production.
“’The Nutcracker’ is
one of the many ways
that the college seeks
to forge alliances with
our surrounding
community – its people
and organizations – so
those involved in the
production certainly
want audiences to come
see these partnerships
in action,” said
Campagna. “And, of
course, we want
audiences to come and
enjoy a dose of holiday
cheer.”
