THEATRE HISTORY
Research Paper Assignment and Check points
Research Paper – (1) 200 points
Each student will be required to research and write a 6 – 8 page paper. This research paper will attempt to connect your major and/or area of interest to the historical evolution of Musical Theatre. Papers will include an annotated bibliography, works cited and references and will be sent to TURNITIN.COM. NO internet sources will be accepted.
Papers must be 12 pt type, 1 in margins, Times New Roman font, double spaced, spell checked, include page numbers and proofread. Papers must include a minimum of 6 references. MLA citation style must be followed. Consult your Bedford Handbook. All papers will be checked for plagiarism.
NOTE:
o I urge all students to narrow their focus to create a thesis driven research paper.
o Feel free to connect the history of Musical Theatre to your own major/area of interest. Business majors are welcome to study the volatile world that is the business of musical theatre. Theatre majors interested in technical theatre could look into the technological changes that have occurred due to the popularity of Musical Theatre. Or, you could look at something entirely different than your major/minor.
o When turning in current and previous material all material must be in a folder.
o Please remember that I do carry a degree in BOTH English and Theatre education. I expect this paper to be scholarly and reflect your ability to research and create a successful and professional argument.
Grading:
The work will be assessed according to the standards set forth in the rubric found here. http://www2.monm.edu/cac/resources/ila-grading-rubric.pdf
Plagiarism:
Please follow the policies set forth in the syllabus. If you have a question, ASK!
