The play follows three sisters living in Russia at the turn of the 20th century who are searching for a tiny piece of happiness in a time of war. It focuses on themes of family values, marital infidelity and the devastation of war. With elements of stark tragedy mixed with poignant humor, “Three Sisters” will keep viewers engaged until the final curtain.
The three sisters – Olga, Irina and Masha – will be portrayed by, respectively, Alexis Fulkerson of Macomb, Merissa Lewiston of Keokuk, Iowa, and Megan Doud-Carter of Burlington, Iowa. Other leading characters include Greg Dortch of Des Plaines as Vershinin; Chase Mowery of Fairbury as Tuzenbach; Marcus Bailey of Knoxville as Kulygin; Kyle Earman of Olympia Fields as Chebutykin; Jason Roepke of Oak Lawn as Andrei; Jamie Kistler of Gerlaw as Solyony; and Abby Davis of Springfield as Natasha.
Theatre faculty members Bill Wallace and Doug Rankin are serving as director and lighting designer, respectively. In addition to his role in the play, Kistler is the set designer. Costume shop supervisor Pat Andresen is the costume designer and Mary Bohlander of Marengo is the stage manager.
Audiences are invited to a dinner and discussion on opening night in the Private Dining Room in Stockdale Center. Monmouth College faculty members Rob Hale, Kate Zittlow Rogness and David Suda will speak about the literary aspects of the play, women’s roles in Russian society and Russian history. Reservations for the opening night event can be made by e-mailing billw@monm.edu. Audiences are also invited to stay for a post-show Q&A with the cast and crew after the opening production.
