What is a Conjunction?

        Basic Definition of a conjunction- Words that link words, phrases, or clauses. Conjunctions join single words, groups of words, and must always join similar elements. 

           1. Coordinating Conjunctions

                    What is linked?

                        and = noun phrase + noun phrase

                        but = sentence + sentence

                        or = verb+ verb

                        so  = sentence + sentence

            2. Subordinate Conjunctions

    These various conjunctions are classified according  to their use in regard to time,  cause and effect, opposition, or condition.

            3. Correlative Conjunctions

   Correlative conjunctions are always used in pairs. They join similar elements.
