Originally from Kansas,
West has been a part of the Monmouth College Theatre faculty since August
of 2006. She currently teaches all levels of acting including Voice and
Movement, Period Styles in
Acting and Career Management for the Actor. She holds a deep interest in
the movement based
training styles of Laban and Viewpoints and is interested in their use in the
teaching of Directing
(her main passion.)
West also teaches Creative Dramatics and
Children's Theatre courses for MC with the help of a
wonderful partnership with the Buchanan Center for the Arts.
Look for her at the BCA facilitaing youth
drama classes and directing youth producitons as a "lab"
opportunity for her theatre majors.
Prior to joining the faculty at Monmouth, she was serving in a position as
Drama Instructor/Director
of Youth Productions
for The Omaha Theater
Company. There she taught a wide array of acting
and directing courses,served as Education Coordinator for the Summer Theater Camp, headed the
Advanced Conservatory
Program, Coordinated the High
School Internship Program
and directed numerous
productions with
actors of all ages and skill levels.
Building upon her interest in directing, West has had the opportunity to have
workshopped and directed
the world premiere of
three professional productions. The Bob and Al Show, a
hilarious comedy
premiered at The Llano Estacado Institute for the
Performing Arts in Lubbock, TX in 2002. Pinocchio,
The Musical,
and The Brave Little Tailor premiered at The Omaha Theater
Company at The Rose.
She attended
Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and
received
a B.A.
with an emphasis in English and Theater Education. As
a Campus Player she directed and
performed in a variety of productions. There she also
served as Master Carpenter and
Master Electrician for numerous productions. As an undergraduate, she also spent a summer
as a deck
crew member and carpenter for the Opera Theater of St. Louis, and Summer Youth
Theater
Director for the Horsefeathers and Applesauce Theater Company. West
received her M.F.A.
degree with an emphasis in both Acting and
Directing from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
There she
directed and performed in many productions both on campus and around the
community.
Currently her family enjoys outings to Chicago, listening to as much
jazz as possible, watching
Iron Chef, pampering their three cats,
beagle puppy, and lots of travel.
Some areas of interest include: Tai Chi Kung, Acting
Theory, Directing, GLBT Issues, Movement
Techniques, Children’s
Theater and Creative Dramatics,
Womyn’s Theater,
Vogel, Viewpoints and Brecht.
