Dunn to lead Scots' Water Polo

Josh Dunn

Josh Dunn will be Monmouth College’s head water polo coach when the sport moves to varsity status this fall, the college announced today.

Dunn, who will graduate from Monmouth in May with a degree in kinesiology, will guide the Fighting Scots’ men’s and women’s program in their inaugural season after spending his college career as a member of the school’s club water polo and varsity swim teams.

“Josh was a key member of both teams during his college career,” said MC’s aquatics director Alex de la Pena. “He fully understands the importance of both teams working together to produce the highest quality programs in both water polo and swimming. We needed someone to guide the polo program with that in mind and we feel that Josh was the perfect fit.”

Currently serving the college as an assistant swim coach, Dunn was also a member of the men’s club water polo team which won the Division III club team national championship last fall.

“I’m extremely honored to be selected as the first coach in the history of the program,” said Dunn. “Monmouth has produced highly competitive club teams in the past and we expect to continue that tradition of excellence on the varsity level.”

The Fighting Scots will open their men’s season in September and the women will begin play the following spring. Few schools nationally sponsor men’s and women’s water polo and even fewer are at the NCAA Division III level.

“We’re fortunate to have such great support for all our athletic programs,” said Dunn. “Our student-athletes understand what a unique opportunity they have at Monmouth. As a former student, I can attest to the college’s commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.”

The addition of water polo gives Monmouth 22 varsity sports, more than many other institutions its size.
