The Van Gogh Exhibit
Shantz Theatre
MC alumni Matt Fotis, Kyle Anderson,
Jeanette Nielsen and Vicki Kunz returned to campus
in this production which
satirizes and
explores contemporary American society and values by examining, among other
things, the interconnectedness of life, marriage, sexuality, postmodern
politics, nostalgia, bus stations, and of course,. Modern Art.
The production has been named one of
the “hits” of the Minnesota Fringe Festival of 2004.

Play On!

This farcical comedy romp was a behind-the-scenes of a
local community theater group’s efforts to put up a show. The
house filled with laughs as the “troupe” prepared
for opening night of “Murder Most Foul,” the play-within-the-play. It
was filled with creative divas, abrasive personalities, missed cues and
technical blunders. IPlay On! was an
extraordinary opportunity to see the muse and mayhem that can go on in local
theatre.

Beyond
Therapy

“Beyond Therapy traced the precarious romance of
Bruce and Prudence, two hapless singles who initially meet through a
personal ad. After an utterly disastrous first date, the dejected pair
retreated to their respective analysts. Prudence’s
therapist (a lecherous bully with designs of his own on her) insisted
that she learn to accept imperfection, while Bruce’s scatterbrained analyst
gleefully suggested another ad with a much-revised
personal description. But again Prudence answered
the call. Chaos ensued as the bisexual Bruce’s
live-in boyfriend
became jealous of the budding lovebirds and took
matters into his own hands.”

The Vagina Monologues
by Eve Ensler
Writer and performer Eve Ensler created a one-woman show that she began
performing off-off-Broadway in 1996. Her show, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, spoke of
women’s bodies covering subjects often considered taboo, risque, and
threateningly empowering. The show was a revelation which would become one of
the most popular theater pieces of its time. As part of the 2005
V-Day College Campaign,
Monmouth College is proud to present this benefit
production of The Vagina Monologues to raise awareness and funds for
local organizations working to end violence against women and girls.

The Trojan Women
by Euripedes
In Euripides’ classic tragedy, Hecuba, queen of fallen Troy, leads this
ensemble of women in their passionate, proto-feminist condemnation of war
and its atrocities. The widowed Andromache; the deranged Cassandra; even the
beauteous Helen, catalyst of the destruction, are all victims, in different
ways, of the terrible aggression between the Greeks and the Trojans.
