Dionysus, the god of wine, prophecy, religious ecstasy, and fertility, returns to his birthplace in order to clear his mother's name and to punish the city for refusing to allow people to worship him.
Dionysus arrives disguised as the stranger, accompanied by a band of bacchants. During Dionysus's absence, Cadmus, had handed the kingdom over to his proud grandson Pentheus who had forbidden the worship of Dionysus. When he arrived in Thebes, Dionysus drove the women mad, and they fled to Mt. Cithaeron to worship him and perform his rites on the mountainside.
Pentheus finds himself threatened by the Dionysian rites bringing the women and orders his soldiers to arrest the troublemakers. Dionysus allows himself to be easily arrested and taken to Pentheus with the others. In three encounters, Dionysus traps Pentheus, leaves him weak, drives the women, including Pentheus’ mother mad, causing her to rip her son apart.
At the palace the chorus is exultant and sings the praise of Dionysus.

Tracy Turnblad is obsessed with The Corny Collins Show and one of its dancers, Link Larkin. Though rejected by producer Belma Vom Tussle at auditions, when Tracey shows off some moves at the Sophomore Hop, Corny Colins gives her a place on the show. Tracey is soon launched to stardom, but can't stand that the show won't allow integration and does everything in her power to make it happen.

This is the story of the Weston family of Oklahoma...a pill-popping mother, a vanished father, and three unique sisters harboring secrets who gather at the family home when Dad disappears. Mix in the scathingly acidic family matriarch, and the audience is left wondering, shuddering, and often smiling with this view into the sometimes sad, sometimes hilarious darkness of a dysfunctional Midwestern American family.
